Raising the bar at Atlassian Team ’24

This year we were pumped to introduce our “In-Shape” sports theme at Atlassian Team ’24. You couldn’t have missed it if you passed by our booth, or happened to spot the draw.io gang in our stylish bright orange hockey jerseys.

We had our game face on, and we were ready at the starting line to give it our all in the Expo Hall this year.

Let’s take a look at how it all played out:

All the latest from draw.io

It was wonderful to see some old faces, and some new. We met draw.io users who know and love us, along with prospective users looking to make the switch. We were delighted to show attendees all our latest features, and what draw.io can do for each and every use case they had for us.

Collaborative editing in DC

One of the most sought-after features we revealed is our improvements to collaborative editing in Data Center. Collaborative editing has been a big challenge, but our engineers put their noses to the grindstone and pushed the technical boundaries as far as possible. They’ve come up with a solution that allows users to benefit from collaborative editing in DC (from version 13.0 onwards).

It works in a similar way to Confluence Cloud – you and your colleagues can edit a diagram, and any changes made will show up in the editor for all users. This is achieved via the autosave feature, which synchronizes the changes made by multiple users after a delay period of a few seconds, while draw.io regularly polls the Confluence DC instance to check for these changes.

Changes a user makes to a diagram in DC will appear for other users collaborating on the same diagram after a few seconds

High Contrast mode in dark mode

We’ve been working on contrast enhancements to our dark mode, providing even greater accessibility and readability options for diagrammers, to ensure the best user experience possible.

Other updates we were proud to bring into the arena were:

The Diagramming Challenge

The one, the only, Bastian, “Die Maschine” Schmitt

We proposed a diagramming challenge to those brave enough to face off against the one and only, Basti, our Subject Matter Expert. Through a series of tasks testing attendees’ mettle as well as their knowledge of draw.io, participants who took on the challenge had a chance of winning a bespoke medal, along with a Polaroid photo with the infamous Diagramming World Champion Belt.

draw.io Happy Hour

This year, along with raising the metal bar, we raised another kind of bar, and hosted our very own Happy Hour. This gave us a fantastic opportunity to check in and have a chit-chat with attendees, and have a common space to relax and take a breather among all the hustle and bustle of the Expo Hall.

Mad for swag

We had bundles of swag to dish out, and something for everyone:

The Eierlegende Wollmilchsau bobblehead

The Eierlegende Wollmilchsau, or EW for short, is our honorary hero, and draw.io’s mascot. She is a mythical German creature who can do it all, as we believe draw.io is the one tool that can do it all. draw.io gives you everything you need to visualize, create customized diagrams and whiteboards, generate AI-driven Smart Templates, and more.

At Team ‘24 we brought the EW to life, in the form of a sporty bobblehead. Reactions to our beloved bobblehead ranged from laughter to pure confusion, and even terror. Remarks include:

“This is great! My kid will love it!”

“Oh, good Lord.”

Protein shakers

These were a hit with attendees, namely for their transportability and utility.

Hair ties

Our hair ties were super popular, with many attendees saying how they loved having items that were designed with a female audience in mind. They also make for a very swish ankle bracelet.

Look alive – it’s Team ‘25

So, what’s next after such a knockout Team ’24?

Preparations for Team ‘25 are already underway. Next year the conference will take place in Anaheim, CA, and we are looking forward to a new venue and new environment to shake things up a bit.

It’s the first year back in California since 2017 for us, and we’re excited to bring some magic to the land of the Magic Kingdom!

We’re looking forward to seeing you there.
