Introducing the upgraded Generate tool (sparkle button)—you can now generate diagrams directly from the toolbar in seconds.

What’s new?

The Generate tool is available directly in the toolbar at the top of the editor (look for the sparkle icon ), or within the template manager when creating a new diagram in Confluence.

The tool is more versatile, intelligently selecting from multiple AI generators based on your prompt. Whether you need UI mock-ups, cloud infrastructure, or code-based Mermaid diagrams like Gantt charts, you can now generate a wider range of diagrams at the click of a button.

How to use the Generate tool

1. Click on the Sparkle button in the top menu.

2. Type in the type of diagram you wish to produce first – this will decide which AI generator will be used. Add any further description, then hit Enter, or click the Send icon.

3. Your query will be processed in a matter of seconds. Click on the zoom (magnifying glass) under the diagram to preview it. If you aren’t happy with the result, click the Refresh icon to generate a new version.

4. Click on the plus (+) icon to add the diagram to the drawing canvas. Some prompts will generate diagrams with colors already applied. Of course, you can also customize the diagrams generated using your preferred colors and fonts.

FAQs

Which LLM(s) does the Generate tool use?

The tool integrates multiple AI engines (such as Gemini, Claude, and ChatGPT) to support complex diagrams like mock-ups and Mermaid code.

Why can’t I see the Sparkle tool in draw.io for Confluence Cloud?

By default, AI features are disabled in Confluence Cloud. To use the Sparkle tool, an Administrator must enable it by following these steps:

1. Head to the settings cog in the top-right corner
2. Head to Apps > draw.io Configuration
3. Add the JSON code “enableAi”: true in curly brackets
4. Click Save.

Is my diagram data secure?

Yes, your diagram data is secure and is never stored on draw.io servers. However, using the AI-powered Generate tool requires cross-domain traffic because your text prompt must be sent to third-party AI services to build the diagram.

For organizations requiring total data lockdown, you can use our draw.io Zero Egress app—our highest-security solution. Alternatively, the draw.io Advanced app edition includes a zero-egress switch that allows administrators to decide whether to enable or disable AI-generated diagramming features entirely.

Is there a limit to how many times I can generate a diagram?

No. There is no limit to how many diagrams you can generate. You can use the Refresh button or edit your query to generate endless variations until you are happy with the result.
