By the late 1990s, a new buzzword was soaring in popularity in software conventions and technology seminars.
I covered such a high-profile technology seminar attended by industry leaders and government ministers when the word “Cloud” was uttered. There were bemused looks among audience members, “Cloud,” what did they mean?

No one could have predicted the change in society the Cloud has brought. It has revolutionized how we work and live, from workflows and international business collaboration to our social lives and how we connect with others. The Cloud has changed how we live, shrunk the planet, and more importantly, it’s here to stay.

Business needs

With the exponential increase in data use that has accompanied society’s transition into the digital 22nd century, it is becoming more and more difficult for individuals and organizations to keep all of their vital information, programs, and systems up and running on in-house computer servers.

The Cloud offered the solutions. Automatic software updates and global access to data, even from mobile devices.
A connected world enabling digital transformation and business agility like never before.

It’s not hard to see why it was embraced by the business world with such fervor.
And this is the reason why a few years ago, Atlassian formally announced their total commitment to the Cloud.

Atlassian did not take this decision lightly, but it was inevitable as the market moved towards Cloud solutions. So Atlassian stepped up to provide these services.

And as Atlassian announced its intentions, draw.io also announced its “Cloud First” strategy.

Advantages

There is no one fit for all, but Atlassian Cloud products offer many advantages:

  • Real-time security, Atlassian provides a team of dedicated security experts in-house working around the clock to keep your data secure.
  • Automatic software updates and upgrades.
  • Remote maintenance
  • Global access enables teams to access data and products securely from any browser or mobile app worldwide.

draw.io

draw.io recognizing the above advantages also invested heavily into Cloud solutions and, as a result, introduced a Confluence first, the new Board editor, a prime example of this new business direction and forward-thinking.

Collaborative diagramming is a game-changer, offering features and team workflows that were unthinkable only a few years back.
And draw.io’s research and investment continue, coming soon, real-time, live collaborative diagramming using the Board editor.

Security

Delegating or subcontracting control of your infrastructure reduces workload and stress and can offer significant savings.

But we understand some may have concerns over data security. So it’s perfectly natural to ask, is my information safe?

Well, Atlassian’s Cloud-first strategy prioritized maximizing security and privacy. They are acutely aware of clients’ concerns and offer industry-leading security standards that are customizable.

We at draw.io were also well aware of these concerns and not only meets Atlassian’s security requirements but we exceeded them.

What about existing users, Server, and Data Centers

Not every business is suited to a Cloud-based system. For example, there may be compliance issues or regulations that prohibit data transfer, Server or Data Center will remain the preferred option in some business cases, and we understand that.

So draw.io is committed to providing support to Server until 2024 and will continue to actively support Data Center. In addition, new features developed for the Cloud will be migrated to Server and Data Centre where technically possible.

You see, we deeply value and appreciate our existing customer base on Server and Data Centre and will continue to support these clients.
As a recent example of this commitment, our new Board editor is now offered for Server and Data Centre.

Migration

Should any business currently on Server or Data Center wish to migrate to the Cloud, draw.io offers a safe, painless, and stress-free migration process. And this is where draw.io scores heavily. We offer both solutions.
If you can’t migrate to Cloud, we still support both Server and Data Center. So draw.io has you covered whatever your business needs.
